Recipe - How To Cook Eggs 101

The simple boiled egg is nature's complete food. It has all the proteins, vitamins and minerals that the body needs. It used to be that people are afraid of eating eggs because of the cholesterol in the egg yolks. Now research has found that eggs actually raised the good cholesterol that the body needs.

While boiling an egg sounds simple enough, over cooking the egg makes the egg tough and rubbery. When over-boiled, the protein hardens and a green ring forms around the yolk.


A simple guide for cooking eggs. Use the following timeline for cooking the desired firmness of the egg yolk. The timing begins after the water is brought to a boil and then the heat is switched off.

For soft-boiled or half-boiled egg, 3 to 5 minutes.
For soft-yolk egg, 6 to 8 minutes.
For hard-boiled egg, 11 to 15 minutes.

For peeling the hard boiled egg, it is best to roll the egg over a hard surface after cracking the shell. This will separate the membrane from the egg for easy peeling.

 The typical way to poach egg is to add a  few drops of vinegar into the boiling water and swirl the water before dropping in the egg. In this 1 minute video, the egg is poached using plastic wrap. Fun!
