Recipe - How To Make Won Ton (Ravioli)

Everyone knows what is won ton (ravioli). It is a recipe that everybody can relate to. So I will introduce this recipe with a joke.

What is 2000 pounds of Chinese soup ? Won Ton.

Why is won ton so popular ? Because the opposite of won ton is Not Now!

Ready made won ton wrapping is easily available from supermarkets. For knowledge, ingredients for making the wrapping is enriched wheat flour [Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid] Water, Salt, Wheat Gluten, Vinegar, Eggs, Egg Whites, cornstarch.

Ingredients for the filling can be varied and it is up to individuals to make their own. I use mince pork, prawns are added for sweetness and water chestnuts for the crunch.

Ingredients (makes 30 won tons):
250 grams of mince pork
3 prawns, minced
3 water chestnuts, peeled and roughly chopped
1 tbs oyster sauce
1 egg, beaten
2 tbs cornstarch (for binding the ingredients)
a few drops of sesame oil
dash of pepper
3 sprigs of spring onion, finely cut

wraps for 30 wontons

Method:
Mixed all the ingredients well. Mixture should not be wet. Add more cornstarch if required.
Use a teaspoon and place the mixture in the middle of the wrapper and wrap up.

I wrap my won tons in a flat manner for ease of frying. I use shallow oil for pan frying.
