Maths - Pythagoras Theorem Explained
This is a nice video explaining the concept of Pythagoras Theorem.
Years ago, a man named Pythagoras found an amazing fact about triangles:
Years ago, a man named Pythagoras found an amazing fact about triangles:
If the triangle had a right angle (90°) ...... and you made a square on each of the three sides, then ......
the biggest square had the exact same area as the other two squares put together!
Note:
- c is the longest side of the triangle
- a and b are the other two sides
Definition
The longest side of the triangle is called the "hypotenuse", so the formal definition:
In a right angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other 2 sides.
This video also explains the formula:
(a+b)²= a² + 2ab + b²

Joke - Beer Talk
Now they tell me !
This indeed is worrying
Beer contains female
hormones.
Last month, Sydney University and CSIRO scientists released the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer.
Men should take a concerned look at their beer consumption.
The theory is that beer contains female hormones (hops contain Phytoestrogens) and that by drinking enough beer, men turn into women.
To test the theory, 100 men drank 8 pints of beer each within a 1 hour period.

3) Gained

5) Became overly emotional

Fruits And Health Benefits
A short 3.5 minute video listing fruits from A to Z and their key health benefits from 101 Healthy Recipes.
Just Stay
"Your son is here," she said to the old man.
She had to repeat the words several times before the patient's eyes opened.
Heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man's limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.
The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed.
All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man's hand and offering him words of love and strength.
Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused.
Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital - the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.
Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night.
Along towards dawn, the old man died.
The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse.
While she did what she had to do, he waited.
Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her.
"Who was that man?" he asked.
The nurse was startled, "He was your father," she answered.
"No, he wasn't," the Marine replied. "I never saw him before in my life."
"Then why didn't you say something when I took you to him?"
"I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn't here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed."
I came here tonight to find a Mr. William Grey. His Son was Killed in Iraq today, and I was sent to inform him.
What was this Gentleman's Name?
The Nurse with Tears in Her Eyes Answered, Mr William Grey.............
The next time someone needs you ... just be there. Stay.

Joke - The Fountain Of Youth
These four older ladies who lived in Italy
Always sat outside together near the church
And chatted about when they were younger.
One month ago they pooled their money together and bought a laptop.
Never having been, but having heard all about Florida, they just happened to click on St. Augustine, FL.
They read about the "Fountain of Youth" claimed by the Spaniards when they arrived there.
They collected up all they had left and sent for four bottles of the water.
As soon as it arrived, they drank as directed.
The rest of this story will make you a believer, because here they are today................

How To make Pickled Ginger
After 5 days |
Pickled ginger is usually served with the Japanese sashimi and sushi and is called gari in Japanese. It is used for cleansing the palate so that you can enjoy the next piece of sushi or sashimi. Pickled ginger can also be used in salad to give the dish a sweet and sour taste.
To make pickled ginger, thin slices of ginger are lightly cooked with rice vinegar and sugar to give it a sweet and sour taste. It is best to use young ginger because the young ginger is less fibrous.
I made a small bottle of pickled ginger, about 100 grams. To make the pickle, add 1 part of sugar to 2 parts of vinegar. Boil the vinegar and sugar to dissolve the sugar. Pour the liquid mixture over the slice ginger in a container. Add a bit of salt for taste.
Ingredients
day 1 |
50 ml of rice vinegar
25 grams of sugar
a pinch of salt
Method
You need a small bottle with cap.
Peel the young ginger and slice the ginger thinly with a slicer.
Sprinkle a little salt over the sliced ginger.
Put the ginger in a container.
Mix the rice vinegar and sugar in a pan and bring to a boil.
Pour the hot mixture of vinegar and sugar over the ginger slices.
Let it cool.
Pickled ginger changes its colour to light pink.
Cover the bottle and and store in the refrigerator.
It can keep for 6 months.
Enjoy.
This 2 minute video shows how to make pickled ginger by boiling the vinegar and sugar before adding to the ginger slices.
This 4 minute video shows how to make pickled ginger without boiling the vinegar and sugar.

Star Fruits (Carambola) And Health Benefits
Originated from the Moluccas and Sri Lanka, and grown in Malaysia and Southeast Asia for several centuries, the star fruit has got several other names including: belimbing, bilimbi, Chinese star fruit, the star apple and five-angled fruit.
- The star fruit is an excellent source of ascorbic acid, which is important to the fitness of your body, as it assists in maintaining bones, teeth, mucus membranes, skin and improves the immune system. Based on Nutrition Data, which is responsible to make reports on nutritional facts for Department of Agriculture in the United States, a single cup of sliced carambola has 37.2 mg of vitamin C.
- The star fruit provides little amounts of the B vitamins such as vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid, and the derivatives may help lower cholesterol and speed up wound recovery. In addition, it contains folate or vitamin B9 that is essential for preventing birth defects as well as for reducing the risk of stroke and heart attacks.
- The fruit has beta-carotene, which can be converted into retinol or vitamin A in your body for good vision and appetite.
- The star fruit contains both antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Extracts of the fruit proved antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, E. coli, Salmonella typhi and Staphylococcus aureus.
- The fruit contains small quantities of potassium, which regulate blood pressure level; iron for balanced red blood cells; as well as calcium and magnesium, which function together to help fortify bones.
- The star fruit is rich in soluble fiber, which can be useful to reduce cholesterol levels and keep your bowels healthy.

Recipe - Steam Pork With Sha Cha Sauce (BBQ Sauce)
The sha cha sauce is a condiment commonly used in Taiwanese cuisine. Sha cha sauce is made from soya bean oil, shallots, flat fish, and dried shrimps to give it a spicy and savoury taste. It is not hot. The taste reminds me of the sauce used for the Singapore satay bee hoon, minus the peanuts flavour.
Lee Kum Kee has a version of this sauce but I was not able to find it in the local supermarket.
Lee Kum Kee Sha Cha sauce |
I got the frozen lean pork from the supermarket and they already come conveniently sliced. Just defrost and marinate with the sha cha sauce.
Ingredients
250 grams sliced lean pork
50 grams black fungus
2 slices ginger, julienned
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
Seasoning
1 tbs light soy
1 tbs rice wine
1 tsp rice wine
Taiwanese sha cha sauce |
Method:
Rinse the fresh black fungus, cut into bite size and blanch in boiling water for 30 seconds. Remove, drained and set aside.
Marinate pork fillet with shredded ginger, minced garlic and seasoning for 30 minutes before adding the Sha Cha Sauce and give it a quick stir till combined.
Arrange blanched black fungus in a steaming plate, lay the marinated pork on top.
Steam it over medium high heat for about 10 minutes or until the meat is cooked.
Enjoy
A short 3 minute video on how to steam pork with Chinese sausage, mushrooms and radish.
Nice.
A short video on how to steam spare ribs. My view is that it will take a lot longer, like 1 hour to make the spare ribs softer. I like the meat to fall off the bones, so I like the ribs to be softer. Very nice.
